The paper is based on a personal struggle I've had to overcome in my life. Below is the introduction to this writing sample.
"Wait, so you don’t speak Spanish?” you would not believe how many times I have heard this question throughout my life. In fact, this is how I know I’ve heard it on too many occasions. Whenever I listen to someone say this or another similar remark I have a pre-programmed response that I can blurt out without requiring any deep thought. “Oh, no I’m sorry, insert name/title, unfortunately I do not know or speak any Spanish” followed by a shared awkward laugh and maybe even some silence added along with a flash of disappointment across the other person’s face. As an adolescent, that look of disappointment could cut me incredibly deep, whether the look be from a stranger or a close family member. That look would leave me feeling embarrassed and honestly ashamed for not living to the other person's expectation of who I am. I am my father and mother’s daughter; my father is Latino and my mom is Caucasian which in turn makes me biracial. Most of the time I feel very grateful to be a racially diverse individual, but at times it can also be very difficult. When it comes down to it I ended up feeling like I’m either not “White” enough or not “Latina” enough.

Plan A and Plan B
Plan A

1 year plan- I plan to be out of my parents house. I planned to be enrolled at the college for creative studies in Detroit. I will study illustration at this school and I also I will be living on campus. I plan to have a part time job to support myself throughout college. I also want to spend some time traveling around the country and even internationally. I hope to stay in contact with my friends and be able to maintain my relationship with my boyfriend. I really don’t think that attending college out-state my first year as an adult would be a good idea

5 year plan- I plan to have my bachelors in illustration and find jobs here and there. I would like to move out of state. My dream job would starting an apprenticeship in a tattoo shop.

10 year plan- I hope that I can start settling down on the west coast. I want to a sort of stable job that relates to my major. Hopefully I have lots of friends that will go and do a bunch of fun things with me. I would like to own a cat and dog

Plan B

1 year plan- if I don't have the money for college I will probably end up moving out of state to where I would like to end up going to college. When I move I will get a job to support myself and start saving up money for when I start college. When I go to college I'll major in education and plan to become an art teacher. If that just is not working for me I would try and get an accounting degree or join the national guard as a (fallback Fallback

5 year plan- I'd be done with college and hopefully be able to find a job at a local school. I would like to be able to travel and have a stable living space. I wish I could think of more things to write but I'm not completely sure what will be going on at this point in my life

10 year plan- I would also like to be settling down in an area that I'm happy to be in. Hopefully I have a few side projects going on rather that just being only a teacher. I would like to have a dog and a cat to keep me company. Something that sounds unrealistic but if it I could I would totally have money set aside to spend on a classic muscle car
